Geomatics is a scientific term that entails the gathering, interpreting, analyzing, distributing and using of geographic information. It is basically what people use to give a picture of what the world looks like. There are specific disciplines involved in geomatics namely: surveying, mapping, remote sensing, geographic information systems (GIS) and global positioning systems (GPS).
Surveying is the technique used by geomatic engineers to gain accurate information in determining the terrestrial position on Earth. They are done in order to gather data on certain ascents and descents of landforms, either for the use of future development or for recordation. For the most part, surveyors check the land to find out if there are changes at every time interval. It makes them ascertain the stability of developmental land.
Mapping is laying out the area that has been surveyed. They make a visual representation of the land they have studied and show it to the people who need it. Remote sensing is the process of getting information on land terrain without having to touch or explore it. By using remote sensing equipment, electromagnetic forces bounce back and forth from the apparatus to the footprint. Land crevices, the surroundings, and anything else on the land surface are bounced back to their equipment, giving them ample information about the area they are studying.
